-take nothing but photographs, leave nothing but footprints-
Tuesday, April 17th, 2007Take nothing but photographs, leave nothing but footprints….Those are the welcoming words i saw a month ago at Kinabalu Park, at the foothill of Mt K’.
And that’s what i actually did..Take nothing but photographs..and stomped footprints all over Mt K’, all over the hostel walls, all over rocks and muds and..and..and….OK, to the photographs.
The air is so fresh at Kinabalu park, even flowers grew SEXIER!!
We stayed a night at one of the hostel in the park before we climbed up..
Yea, so much grace even Morning Glory stays blooming in the evening..
We started early the next morning. Got ourselves a guide (it’s a must to have a guide along the whole trip) named Peter (quite a good guy and if you’re a gal..wink at himĀ as many time as u wish >_o ). We got ourselves a potter too (optional, but we were just too lazy to carry our bags)
There are 2 trails to choose from where we want to start our journey up, Timpohan trail(the left one in the picture) and Mesilau trail(the right one in the picture). We took the Timpohan trail.

The team might be small but the courage within is flaming HOT!!…well, probably it is because we were wearing more than a layer then.
The small…and the BIG..
Along the way there were huts for us to rest. This particular 1 is named ‘Ubah Hut’.
Emmanuel, The Cheong!!
Hikers are encouraged to make friends with nature.
Lucky squirrel gets to eat the remainings of my energy bar. I bet it was so filled with energy after that.
We stop occasionally to enjoy the fresh air.
We stop to gasp for air actually..
As the air thins, greenery will be lesser and lesser. But there are still some pretty flowers along the way.
This is where we had our lunch at 11,000 feet - ‘Laban Rata’
11000 feet is where we stayed for the night before we continue our journey the next early morning. Instead staying in Laban Rata, we hiked further up to stay in Gunting Lagadan. It’s nearer to start out our journey from there early next morning…..02:00:00 am.
Why so early? well, i guess it’s probably for the reason, this…
SUNRISE~ SUNSHINE ~ SUNRISE
A couple enjoying the sunrise horizon.
Who wouldn’t? I enjoyed…LOVED! it as much as they did.
The picture below is the shadow of Low’s Peak, the tallest peak of Mt. K’.
And of coz’ we wouldn’t see that much if we didn’t made it so far to Low’s Peak.
Along the way down, we continue taking photographs.
Thanks to Peter who pointed out to us, I’m able to take a shot of this strange cloud.
Mulder, Scully, you have been deceived all this while. The truth is rite here.
This is South Peak. If some of u finds this familiar, that’s because we use this picture so often…
But too bad they left out something in that one Ringgit bill…
They left ……ME OUT!!
This is “Donkey Ears”..seriously, that’s the name to that stone… that peak..that formation…. that thing over there. erm, doesn’t it look like a thumb?
Certain parts are so steep, that i prefer to ab-sling my way down.
It was a tiring trip up and down but it was worth every effort going up. That night I slept well at the park. We left Kinabalu park the following day.
We had the chance to visit KK town before we flew back to KL. We even had a very nice breakfast at Sunny Garden. They serve very nice Fish Paste with noodles in this shop..
This is not a paid advertisement.
Given me a chance i would wanna go Mt. K’ again. Probably next year..who knows. This time Mesilau trail. I was told that it has nicer scenery from there.
Before i end, here a fact: I was told that there’s a record holder whom hiked up and down Mt. K’ in just 2 hours….Wow! amazing. But i knew someone who can do better than that…
